Quaker Garden Update and other Tidbits

Happy Sunday - it's kind of a dreary day here, but that's okay. We haven't had rain for well over a month so today's showers are very welcome! We had our warmest day of the year yesterday with the temperature hitting triple digits!

This weekend, I've only stitched on Quaker Garden - as you can see, I've made quite a bit of progress. It's a little more than half way finished. Here's an updated photo:

Tonight I'm going to try to finish the third row of the DT Game Board Sampler.

For anyone that's not familiar with how to make a biscornu, there's an online class at the following website: Finishing School. You can order the supplies through Handcrafts Online. I've ordered a few things from Mary Kathryn in recent weeks - she's very prompt about sending her orders out and quite easy to do business with!

Question about stitching lights...do you have a favorite stitching light or model that you could recommend? I'm looking for a floor lamp model. You may recall that earlier this year my favorite aunt passed away. She remembered me in her will and I'd like to get something tangible (and meaningful) that would remind me of her each time I used it. I think that I'm going to get a decent stitching light - I just don't know where to start! Any recommendations you can pass along will help me get started - thanks!

Nice progress! You'll be done in no time, from the looks of it. :)

Wow, Cathy, you're tearing through this one! It looks so lovely, too.

I think a stitching lamp is a wonderful legacy to remember your aunt by. I'll be curious to hear people's suggestions. We have a big halogen lamp that gives great light, but it gets HOT.

Quaker Garden does look great! I did some more yesterday so I'd better update my photo :)

Are you going to stitch Secret Garden too?

No suggestions on stitching lamps I'm afraid...

Hi...I found a really nice lamp at Home Depot. It's a decorative floor lamp but comes with a full spectrum (day light) bulb. They also sell a table-top variety as well. Not only do they provide good craft lighting, but neither looks like a "work" lamp like many of the other crafting lamp options.

Hope this helps! :-)

Wonderful QG progress. You'll be done in no time. Such a beautiful design.

Well our power is on/off with this weather -- I better sign off -- btw, I don't own a floor lamp; however, enjoy an ott task light. The light makes stitching easier for me (stitching & other projects)

I have a beautiful antique looking floor lamp that uses an Ott light bulb. It is a burnished gold in color and has a bell shaped frosted glass bell cover. It is perfect for quilting or stitching and moves to many different heights. My DH has used it for model train work and we use it as a great reading light. I got it at Joanne's Fabirc store and it was about $230 (I used a half off coupon!) Hope that helps.
