My dear friend Lelia sent these bookmarks to me. They will be going to my local EGA chapter's outreach program - Bookmarks for Literacy. (More info on this program on my posts for Oct 15 & 17). Aren't they beautiful? The one in the middle is a Prairie Schooler design. I'm hoping Lelia will tell me how the outside two were constructed - I may try to make some of these myself for the program. Thank you Lelia!
Wow... Gorgeous bookmarks! Lelia did a great job with them.
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks a million. Glad they arrived.
ReplyDeleteThat is 'Myreshka' Ukrainian Drawn Work also called Ukrainian Openwork Embroidery. I took a class with Jane Ellen Balzuweit sponsored by EGA's Great Lakes Region. The class was in Sept of 2001.
The person I was with was given permission to teach this to our EGA chapter. What region is your EGA chapter? Is it also in the Great Lakes Region?
The PS is a freebie [you may have to iron the prairie schooler BM -- I don't remember if I pressed it or not, yikes]
sorry ... here is an on-line diagram:

I guess you already know how to withdraw threads from linen. This is the stitch used to embellish the drawn thread areas.
I used #8 & #12 perle cottons. Traditional pieces are done with white and ecru.
I like using color - I have one in white & will put a pic on my blog.
Oh, those are gorgeous! The Ukranian drawn work is amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet of Lelia!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are awesome!! Great job, Lelia!
ReplyDeleteVery nice work by Lelia! They will be prized by whomever receives them through the literacy program, I'm sure. :)
ReplyDeleteI especially like the Prairie Schooler one, all three are beautiful. What wonderful work Lelia did for a great cause!
