My dear friend Lelia sent these bookmarks to me. They will be going to my local EGA chapter's outreach program - Bookmarks for Literacy. (More info on this program on my posts for Oct 15 & 17). Aren't they beautiful? The one in the middle is a Prairie Schooler design. I'm hoping Lelia will tell me how the outside two were constructed - I may try to make some of these myself for the program. ReplyDeleteThat is 'Myreshka' Ukrainian Drawn Work also called Ukrainian Openwork Embroidery. I took a class with Jane Ellen Balzuweit sponsored by EGA's Great Lakes Region. The class was in Sept of 2001.
The person I was with was given permission to teach this to our EGA chapter. What region is your EGA chapter? Is it also in the Great Lakes Region?

I guess you already know how to withdraw threads from linen. This is the stitch used to embellish the drawn thread areas.
I used #8 & #12 perle cottons. Traditional pieces are done with white and ecru.
I like using color - I have one in white & will put a pic on my blog.
Oh, those are gorgeous! The Ukranian drawn work is amazing!!!
