Would You Like to Take a Peek?

Here's a peek at what I'm working on right now. As you can see, it's almost finished. The design is from Mary Garry and it is called "When I was Young and in my Prime." The verse reads:

"When I was yound and in my prime,
Here you may see that I spent my time,
With needle and fine embroidery."

I snatched this up on eBay a couple of weeks ago and felt compelled to stitch it right away. I'll share fabric and fiber selections when I post the finish.

What do you know about Mary Garry? I just recently discovered her designs, which of course are all out of print because she isn't designing anymore! Most everything in my collection has been purchased on eBay. Her designs are quite popular, I know that oher stitching bloggers love them too. Does anyone know what happened to Mary Garry? It's too bad that she doesn't re-publish her designs like Anne Brown from The Goode Huswife has done -- I think they would be a big hit!

Enjoy your day!

I too love the Mary Garry designs. I do not own any, I discovered her too late. I would be thrilled if she would re-publish her designs! The one you are working on is lovely!

What a lovely piece!! I totally agree about MG and republishing her designs - the MG charts I have are all from eBay wins - and not easy to acquire!!

The MG piece looks lovely. I'm in the same boat as you in that I only discovered her recently thorough blogs so I can't tell you anything about what happened to her.

What a great piece. You've really stitched it quickly. I can't wait to see it finished.

I love Mary Garry designs too but only have a few of them. I've never seen the piece your stitching before and I really like it. In fact, I really wonder if any of us has seen all that she designed. I've been stitching for years and don't even remember seeing her designs for sale. Now they're OOP and we all want them.

I'm another Mary Garry fan who came to the party late. :( I just LOVE the one you are working on. Your stitcing is just beautiful.

I wonder if you would consider sharing this one with some of us stitchers. Maybe as a traveling pattern?

Oh, I love those MG designs. I know you picked at least one from the hidden depths of Shepherd's Bush when you visited! I have picked up a few, but you're right, they are hard to find.

Beautiful work Cathy. I just love peeking at your blog! Know that I'm lurking a lot, and loving everything that you are doing! I appreciate your sharing such beautiful things.

Your sampler is beautiful Kathy. I'm a big fan of MG too... and have had to get the charts on eBay. I don't know her story either... but it would be nice if MG and BOAF would republish their charts.

I love MG, too. I've gotten a few of her charts but not as many as I'd like. Your WIP is beautiful!

About a year ago I went on a Google hunt for her designs and found out they were all OOP. Ebay - now that's something I haven't tried before!

Good progress. I like the colors you chose. Hope to talk to you soon.

You're not the first to lament the loss of Mary Garry's designs. I brought it up on my blog some time ago, too. She's a woman of mystery apparently, and no one could provide me with much of an answer of what happened to her. If she came back, I'm sure she'd find a faithful following!

Email me if you'd like to compare titles. I do have a few of hers, and they can be awfully pricey on eBay!

I love Mary Garry's designs, and this one is no exception. When I discovered her all her designs were already OOP and I have never seen a catalogue that compiles all of her deigns. So when browsing the stitching blogs I can discover new to me MG designs every now and then, like this one. I just own two of her designs, the ones that were published in a JCS issue many years ago.

Cathy,
Great design! I love Mary Garry and have various charts of hers....maybe we could do a trade. I know one of your other friends likes her designs too and I have sent her some gifties of MG charts. Would love to hear from you: pjstitcher@mchsi.com pj

I have to admit to not being a great MG fan (but then again, I'm not big on any primitive/traditional samplers), but I do love to see them stitched up, and the passion that they invoke in other people. You've really motored along on this one - it looks lovely :)

I love Mary Garry's designs, too, and as with most of the other stitchers have said here, I came to the party late! I only discovered her designs after she retired. I've bid on them on Ebay but never won because they're so popular and go above the price I am willing to pay. It's a shame the designer isn't able to reap the monetary awards by rereleasing at least her older designs. The few that I've stitched or have in my stash are gifts from other stitchers. I am interested to hear what you're using for fabric & threads!

I'm also just discovering this designer. I don't have anything of hers yet but they're on my wish list.
I love the one you're working on.

What a lovely piece! I love MG too, as everyone else seems to do :) What a pity they can't be bought anymore!
