So a week or so ago I had to have a little chat with my 80-year old mother. I told her that her birthday was over and she needed to get back to work. Summertime was not just for baseball and lolly-gagging in her garden...I needed her to tat! :)
Okay, you all know me well enough - I love my mom and that's not how the conversation went! She's been busy enjoying herself. She loves legion baseball and she loves tending to her small vegetable garden and taking care of the numerous scattered flower pots in her yard. Fortunately for me, its been really warm here in MN and she's been spending more time inside, and she's been tatting. Bonus for me. Look at these little treasures that she dropped off the other day:
These medallions are smaller than some of the others she's made for me in the past and so rather than pincushions we have petite size tartlets!
I told her it was going to be hot for a few more days and she should really stay inside and stay cool. After all, I'm just looking out for her well-being, and it wouldn't hurt if she tatted a little bit more, right? (For those of you who know my mother, you know this is like talking to a brick wall. She will do as she pleases!)
Here's another plate of them that I made a couple weeks ago - these have been gifted to some friends.
I have some larger medallions from her that are waiting to be transformed into larger pincushions. Will post pictures of those too when they are complete!
My "I Sigh Not For Beauty" finish is so close I can taste it. There's going to be a big celebration this weekend I think.
Thanks for stopping by!

Cathy, those are, perhaps, even more adorable than the pincushions! Who knew that was possible? I just love those bright colors.
My Mother in law is 88 and is sounds as if she's much like your mother - quite independent and knows her mind! Sadly, macular degeneration has taken muchof her sight - but has slowed her down much.
Tell you Mom how much the world out here loves her work!

Your Mom's tatting is beautiful Cathy. I love the vibrant thread colors she is using. The little tatted tartlets are wonderful.
Your mom is just fantastic!! I will always treasure the little tatted angel she made you sent at Christmas.... Tend the garden a little, come inside to cool down and tat.... Awesome!!

I love your mom's tatting. Always so pretty! And what you make with them is wonderful too! I love your description of her as well. It's obvious how much you love your mom.
Cathy - those little things are SO adorable! Maybe even sweeter than the picushions - although I wasn't sure that was possible! Love the bright colors.
Your mother sounds a lot like my 88 year old Mother in law - quite active and independant and knows her mind! Macular degeneration has taken much of her sight - but hasn't really slowed her down much.
Please tell you mom how much the world out here loves her work!

Your mother's work is amazing! And you have inherited her talent! What a great team the two of you make!
Your Mother's tatting is gorgeous and what a wonderful way to showcase them as tatted tartlets.
Have a relaxing weekend!
