Quilter’s Station Retreat

Hello again! Can’t believe a whole month has passed since my last post! September has been a busy month.

At the end of August, the Mad Tatter said, “it is high time you should learn how to make plum dumplings”. When the Mad Tatter speaks, we all listen and follow orders. One of the last Saturdays in August we made the dumplings. They were a lot of work and I’m not convinced that I could do it myself, but I do enjoy eating them!

On Labor Day, my PIC and I went to the Minnesota State Fair. We were only there long enough to view all of the needlework entries in the Creative Activities building and enjoy a few tasty treats. It was a fun time.

Later that week we were off for Quilter’s Station in Lee’s Summit, MO. Their Cross Stitch Extravaganza is held twice a year and we have attended every single one. We love the event and the hotel it is held at. We received projects from four designers - Needlework Press / Vickie Jennett, Stacy Nash, Lois from Lady Dot, and Theresa Venette from Shakespeares Peddler. Every single project was a homerun!

Let’s take a look at their trunk shows first. Here’s Stacy Nash’s table. Some of her animals were there!

Vickie brought some antique samplers with her.

And Theresa brought several models of samplers and lots of linen!

So let’s take a look at the class projects! Vickie gave a lovely lecture on birds in samplers, and so our project was based on a dutch sampler that included birds and a couple of chickens!

Stacy based her project on an antique sampler that she bought in England last year. She was drawn to the goat on the sampler!

Lois made us work! Those of us who stayed on task brought a finished project home with us. I was able to finish mine. Three stuffed pumpkins sitting on top of a spool!

Last but not least, Theresa designed a lovely sampler for us. She also shared with us the design process from beginning to end.

So, that was our weekend! It was great fun. We’re planning to go back next April.

I hope to be back again tomorrow. I have several finishes to share with you!
