Dyeing to Stitch Retreat

Last weekend, my BFFs and I traveled to Virginia Beach, VA for the Dyeing to Stitch retreat! Our flights all operated on time and we arrived safely on Thursday night. After a good night’s sleep, the weekend festivities began!

On Friday morning we made a quick trip to Liberty Hill Needleworks in Williamsburg. We were so close, so we just had to make the trip. What a fabulous shop!

We quickly did our shopping and moved on because the “main event” was at Dyeing to Stitch. Years ago I had attended a retreat at Dyeing to Stitch and their shop was in a different location at that time. It was fun to visit their newer location. I cannot begin to describe the number of models they had in their shop - wow. Each one was finished nicer than the next.

We checked in for the retreat and received a project bag with our retreat projects. Alma was at the shop and it was so good to see her again!

Alma had a few things displayed including a drum and a pillow finish, the charts for which were included in our project bag.

Friday night included stitching at the hotel and shopping with some special vendors.

On Saturday, we were in the morning class. Again, what a delight to see and hear from Alma again. This was her farewell retreat; she will continue to design but she won’t be doing anymore retreats.

Our project this morning was a lovely birth sampler that Alma designed for her granddaughter born last October. So pretty!

As a bonus, we received charts for two other samplers. The originals were stitched by sisters, Jane and Hannah Walker.

When Alma reproduced them she put her own name and her sister’s name on the samplers.

To finish off the day, all the retreat goers came together for a grand lunch followed by a presentation from Ann Robbins and Pat Ryan about antique samplers and needlework tools.

How fortunate and blessed we were to participate in this very special event!

What an amazing weekend you had, Cathy! I am glad you were able to spend time at Liberty Hill Needleworks while in the area. It is an incredible shop for not quite being a year old. Happy Sunday!
