Weekend Celebration

Very little stitching has been happening of late. Our highly anticipated weekend of the summer is now just a memory. We’re grateful that it happened, given all the twists and turns it took as a result of COVID.

On Friday evening, our daughter got married. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The ceremony lasted about 30 minutes; a cocktail hour followed and then a sit-down dinner. The guest list was significantly less than originally planned, but we still had 100 people join us for the celebration. Another 300 watched the ceremony via live stream (what would we do without modern technology?) It was a perfect afternoon and evening!

I don’t have many pictures; the mother of the bride was too busy visiting with guests!

They are off on their honeymoon now and I continue to enjoy the bouquet; it smells wonderful.

We are also watching their puppy Nala!

Last Days of Summer

I switched up my display on the table in front of the window; it was time to put the patriotic themed stitching away and let some other designs be in the spotlight!

The sampler on the left is from Chessie and Me. It is called Scarlet’s Summer Sampler. Finishing smaller pieces like this on a board is so easy. There’s a piece of Weeks Dye Works wool behind it. Love it! The tomato is from Under the Woolen Willow on Etsy. Since I worked so hard on those pinwheels, I am going to enjoy the entire set displayed together for just a bit longer!

This sampler sits on my Martha Washington table. It is called This is the Day and it is a design from Hands to Work/Tracy Riffle. It was published in Just Cross Stitch back in February 2009. The red house and the verse are what attracted me to this sampler. It’s one of my favorites. Did you know that Tracy is designing again?

I’m kind of on a finishing/Hands on Design kick since finishing all of those pinwheels last week. All of the finishing pieces for three Halloween designs were assembled at last year’s Needlework Guild of MN retreat. All I need to do yet is the stitching (for all three pieces) and then I can put them together. Working on the first one. I should be able to finish this one up in another evening or two.

Thank you for stopping by; come back again. I picked up something fun last week and I’ll share it in my next post.

Spring Fling Weekend

As I mentioned in an earlier post, our original Stitchville Spring Fling weekend, scheduled in April, was canceled and rescheduled to this weekend as a Zoom meeting. While it wasn’t the same as gathering in person, it was still a lot of fun.

Linda Stolz from Erica Michaels was this year’s designer and she did a great job teaching via Zoom.

You might remember the unopened retreat box that I posted earlier this week (Anticipation). It was filled with goodies and our class project.

Friday night was the unveiling and the project is to die for. Linda found an old sampler in the attic of her childhood home and it served as the inspiration for the set of smalls that we will stitch.

We all received a lesson in stitching on silk gauze. This band, stitched on 30ct. gauze, will go around our ort jar. I still need to fill in the background.

Today we made these beautiful wool roses for the top of the ort jar.  So cute!

It was a great weekend and it really lifted my spirits!

Farewell Faithful Friend

Today we said goodbye to our Josie. We adopted her when she was seven and enjoyed five and a half wonderful years with her. She was sweet, gentle, and so well-behaved. It was her time to go and she will forever be missed.

Anticipation...is making me wait.

I’m anxiously looking forward to opening this box. Stitchville Spring Fling was originally scheduled in April, but Covid had other plans.

We will be having our Spring Fling retreat this weekend via Zoom. Linda Stolz is the designer and the event starts tomorrow night.

We normally would have gathered at the hotel tonight for a little pre-retreat fun.

I am missing all my retreat buddies tonight. Thinking of you.

Almost Finished

First, let me answer a couple of questions...

Khristine...the designer is Hands on Design. The pattern name is Well-Rounded, Perennial Pinwheels.

Robin - no ice cream at the creamery; it has been turned into a quilt shop and woolen mill!

It rained all day today. Perfect day to keep working on my finishing. I was able to finish the fronts and then stitched the fronts to the backs. Tomorrow, I will add the trims and the pins.  Second picture shows the finishing fabrics I used on the back.

This project has been a lot of fun!

Pinwheel Backs are Ready

My pinwheel backs are ready. Tomorrow I will work on the fronts.

Took a little field trip today.

Ready for Finishing!

All twelve pinwheels are finished! Ready for finishing.

I made a quick pitstop at a quilt store yesterday to pick up some fabrics for finishing. They were selling some of their models. These two had to come home with me!

Love these colors and fabrics.

Isn’t the backside cute?

And this tablerunner was a steal!

On vacation this week! It’s wonderful!

Glad the weekend is here.

When You Don’t Have Time to Stitch...

Yes, it’s been a challenging week. When you don’t have time to stitch, support other needleworkers!

I purchased this lovely armchair needleroll/needleminder from a stitcher and quilter that I follow on Instagram. It’s beautifully quilted, the fabrics are lovely, and it came with a pretty strawberry pincushion! There are pockets on both ends to hold my scissors, a ruler, and any other supplies I want to keep close at hand.

Look at these goodies from Under the Woolen Willow on Etsy. I snagged one of her tomato pincushions and one of her chenille strawberries. So cute!

All of these things just make me smile!

Low on Gas This Week

Well, how quickly things can change! I didn’t have much stitching time this week. I was only able to finish one of the remaining four pinwheels. Here is the winter pinwheel.

Earlier this year, Belinda from Blue Ribbon Designs did some finishing for me. She finished all three of these project bags from Brenda Gervais. She did an amazing job.

Belinda also finished the pocket of this design from Hands on Designs. I had stitched it last year, but couldn’t bring myself to sew the pocket together. I did finish the pincushion though (I don’t mind hand finishing.). Belinda did an amazing job on this project too.

That’s all I’ve got for today! Thank you for your kind comments!
