Sorry friends, I've been doing a pretty good job of keeping up with reading everyone else's blogs. I haven't had much time though to post any new messages to mine. Once the holidays are past I will get back into a regular habit.
Thought I'd post a couple of pictures for you. We have two trees this year. This one is in our living room:
I put up a second tree in our family room this year. It's one of those alpine firs (very tall and skinny and scant branches). I decided to put all of my handmade ornaments on it. Some of them I made, some were made by others. A few were purchased at boutiques. These are some of my favorite ornaments.
Lastly, I want to show you some felt ornaments I made when I was about 13 years old. I made them from a kit (Does anyone remember Leewards?) They hung on my mother's tree for years, and now they hang on mine.
It's hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. I still have shopping to do. I rarely get any baking done, but I always think I'm going to (the kitchen isn't my favorite room in the house anyway!) Kids are looking forward to a break from school over the holidays and amidst all the chaos we're expecting a full blown snow storm on Wednesday that will last through the weekend! Oh well, somehow everything still gets done. Have a great week!

What beautiful and festive trees! I love the handmade ornaments. I'm ashamed to say that I don't have any homemade ornaments on my tree. I'll have to remedy that. Great decorating!
Everything looks beautiful, Cathy :) How special that you have the felt ornies that you made that hung on your mom's tree :) That's priceless in my book :)
Cathy, your trees are so pretty! One day I'll have to dedicate one tree to handstitched ornaments :) Also loved seeing your felt ornaments you made at 13. I think my favorite ornament was made by my middle daughter when she was about 5 - she took two corndog sticks, crossed them and glued them together, then wove and glued some raffia in the top opening of the X to make a manger. It's always at the top of the tree :)
I have to admit, I love the idea of having 'heirloom' Christmas ornaments - that's the sort of thing I'd treasure too. And your tree looks absolutely stunning! I still haven't finished my first ornament 'officially' yet ... but hey, there's over a week left, right? LOL. It will take me about 10 years to get mine looking like yours though ;) Just wonderful!
I love it, Cathy. Your home looks so cozy and inviting! I will have to look for one of those alpine firs next year - that shape would fit in so much better than the short, bushy trees that we usually have. The ornaments from your childhood are really a treasure!
Your trees are beautiful, Cathy! You have great taste.
The alpine tree is just perfect for handmade ornies, that are usually bigger than "regular" ornies! What a great idea!
Your felt ornies are so cute and must mean so much to you...
Did you make the tree skirt by the way? It's GORGEOUS!
