Stash Busting in 2012

Doot doot doo doot doo doot...doo doo doo doo doo doot...doot doot doo doot doo doot...Stash Busters!

Okay, I need to figure out how to add music to my blog! My theme song for 2012 is going to be Stash Busters! (Come on, you know the tune - hum the "Ghost Busters" song and just insert "Stash Busters!) Now I've got this song stuck in my head.

Okay, so as you know, I spent a good part of the weekend, cleaning through my stash. It's kind of out of control! I separated my stuff into three piles:

  • Small kitted projects (fobs, needlebooks, pincushions, etc.) that won't take too much effort to stitch and finish.

  • WIPs and UFOs - I had a number of these that weren't even included on my WIP list! They are now all accounted for.

  • Larger kitted projects

  • I just function better and accomplish more when I have a plan. My plans are always flexible and I don't stress out if things don't go as planned. It always helps me if I write it down. I know it's early for New Year's Resolutions, but I just can't help myself! So here's part one of my "Stash Busting in 2012" plan:

Stash Busting in 2012: Challenge #1: Reduce the number of "kitted smalls" in my stash by stitching 2 to 3 small projects per month!

I counted a total of 34 small kitted projects in my stash. Yikes! But you all know me well enough. When I put my mind to it and get those turbo needles working, I can get a lot done in a short period of time. That's my challenge and I'm going to stick to it!

Now I need to think about those wips and other kitted projects and come up with a plan to reduce those piles.

Does anyone want to join me for some Stash Busting in 2012?

Happy Hump Day! Keep on stitching!

I'm planning the same thing for 2012, I meant it for 2011 too, but.....

I went through my stash and found I am barely interested in many things in there. Sigh. I think I'll be working on those BAP WIP's that have been sitting around in 2012.

Oh dear! First, I love your basket you have your "kits" in. Second, earlier this morning, I came across a group that is forming called, "2012 WIPocalypse". You can check it out.

Your plan sounds good and I'm looking forward to seeing pics of those finished smalls. I've been trying to control my impulse stitching purchases and working for my enormous stash too.

I look forward to seeing your progress in this challenge Cathy. I don't have much stash to rummage through, but I am planning on using what I have and not buying anything new until Christmas. We'll see how I go! Best wishes to you.

Oh my goodness! This post just gets my stitching juices flowing (that sounds gross!).......I need to start looking through my stuff and organizing. Luckily, I am going up to Wisconsin to visit a stitching friend this weekend and am hauling all my stash for show and tell....I can start organizing it this weekend! Now, if only those designers would take a year off!!!

I'll join you! I signed up for the Up for a Challenge blog, but due to some family issues, wasn't able to complete much this year - that, and I tend toward BAPs! Your idea is a great one!

You go girl! I can't wait to see your finished pieces pile up next year. :)

Dang you-- I'm going to have to go find music now because I refuse to hum that danged song all day... it'll just make me think of stash.

I am planning, uh I mean hoping, to do the same thing in 2012. This has just not been a good year of stitching for me but I hope to make next year The Year of the Needle. (insert Eye of the Tiger music) lol.

I don't know yet what I am planning for 2012 but I am thinking a bit of time in my sewing room might be in order :-). Your plans sound wonderful and I can't wait to watch your progress!!!!

Stash busting sounds like the plan for me. I want to try and get through what I have rather than purchase more. Okay has everybody heard my famous last words now, lol?!

I am planning on some Stash Busting myself. I am aiming to finish up all of my model stitching by the end of December and then devote some me stitching time in 2012!

Planning is half of the fun. I love your basket with kitted smalls and I'm sure your basket with UFOs and WIPs is just as great. I'm doing the same thing at the moment and I have already joined the WIPocalypse that Jill mentions. Seems to become a lot of fun, too.

Why do I hear Rocky music playing in the background? I can just see you running up steps alongside a mound of finished projects. ;) I am SO with you on Stash Busting 2012. I joined the WIPOcalypse and have a bunch of stuff for that, plus I just really want to stitch from my stash. I'll allow myself to buy some new things (mostly because the moment that I don't allow it, I will obsess over needing it!) but no--I really want to work on my stash. I went through my closet yesterday and oh my gosh. I was thrilled, shocked, and embarrassed at all the lovely things that I have yet to stitch and all that I want to stitch, all the linen that I've hoarded yet I never have just what I need. So--it is ON for 2012!
